LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sophomore center Kayla Robert converted a 6-on-5 opportunity with less than two minutes remaining to help 12th-ranked Long Beach State escape an upset to No. 16 UC Davis in a Big West Conference women's water polo game at Campus Pool Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies slip to 11-15 overall and 0-4 in league play. The 49ers improve to 17-8 for the year and even their Big West record to 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Jillian Wilding tallied nine saves to keep UC Davis in contention during the see-saw battle. Seniors Alex Rawlinson, Erin Schlueter and Hannah Curran, and junior Keelia Houston netted one goal each. Robert was one of three Beach players with one goal each, while Christina Kotsia hit two.

Rawlinson scored the only goal in the first-half defensive battle to give UC Davis a 1-0 lead at the break. The 49ers put up four goals in the third quarter to erase Aggie leads of 1-0 and 3-2. Junior Elsie Fullerton draw a five-meter foul and Houston converted the penalty shot to tie the contest at 4-4, but Robert put away with game-winner on an LBSU power play with 1:49 to go.

UC Davis returns to action in a weekend trip to Hawai'i on Friday and Saturday. The Aggies take on Cal State Monterey Bay in non-conference neutral play on Friday, then face the host Rainbow Wahine as part of their Big West Conference slate on Saturday.
