SEASIDE, Calif. - Senior Carmen Eggert and sophomore Elsie Fullerton scored two goals amidst a run of six unanswered in the first quarter, kickstarting 19th-ranked UC Davis to a 13-5 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in women's collegiate water polo action at the Otter Tank Friday afternoon.
The Aggies improve to 13-15 for the year. The Otters slip to 8-20 overall.
Eggert and fellow senior Jessica Dunn each led UC Davis with three goals. Fullerton, junior center Hannah Curran and sophomore attacker Keelia Houston netted two apiece, while sophomore utility Katrina Husted added one score in the fourth quarter.
The Aggies also played all three active goalkeepers: senior starter Riane Woods posted two saves in the first half, sophomore Jillian Wilding recorded two in the third quarter, then freshman Haley Cameron closed the game with three stops in the fourth.
Eggert scored her goals at the 6:22 and 2:51 marks in the first frame. Fullerton scored on a natural with 2:11 remaining to bump the score to 5-0, then hit a 6-on-5 chance on the next UC Davis possession to make it 6-0 with 90 ticks left. Otter senior Julie Cooper put her team on the board midway through the second quarter, then Dunn scored a power-play goal with nine seconds left to send the Aggies to the break with a 7-1 edge.
Cooper scored her second goal in the third quarter to help CSUMB take a step in the right direction, but UC Davis tacked on five goals in the fourth quarter to pull from an 8-3 deficit to a 13-5 victory. Dunn hit a pair of natural goals to complete her hat trick in the final stanza.
Friday's win helps UC Davis break up a tough stretch of Big West Conference losses to three consecutive Top 10 foes.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday, April 20, hosting Pacific as part of the university's Picnic Day events.
