DAVIS, Calif. - Junior attacker Carmen Eggert performed a hat trick while senior defender Alicia Began added two more goals, leading 11th-ranked UC Davis to a 10-4 win over 18th-ranked Cal State Northridge in Big West Conference women's water polo action at Schaal Aquatics Center Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies move to 16-12 overall and finish with a second-place 4-1 record in Big West play. The Matadors fall to 15-19 for the year and 1-4 in conference.

Junior Jessica Dunn, senior Ariel Feeney, sophomore Kathryn Bailey and freshmen Allyson Hansen and Keelia Houston each tallied a goal for UC Davis. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Tatusko posted seven saves, including four in the second quarter.

For CSUN, four different players had one goal each. Sophomore Lindsy Nelson and senior Jessica Goforth each had one 6-on-5 tally.

Both teams battled defensively in the first half, holding a 1-1 tie for almost eight full minutes. Dunn converted a power play midway through the second period and Feeney scored a natural goal in the final minute to boost the Aggies to a 3-1 halftime edge.

After CSUN's Heidi Pettinger halved the margin to a single goal with 6:31 remaining in the third, UC Davis exploded for five unanswered during the next five minutes to stretch the lead to 8-2. Began and Eggert each netted two in that run. The Aggies held a 10-3 advantage late in the fourth before Goforth's player-up goal brought the score to its final with 15 ticks left.

The Aggies secured the No. 2 seed on Saturday on a combination of their win over UC Santa Barbara and CSUN's loss at Pacific. Sunday's win granted them sole possession of second place in the league. The lone remaining Big West Conference game is Thursday's UC Irvine-Long Beach State contest. The No. 6 Anteaters have clinched the top seed for the conference championship, hosted by UC Davis from April 27-29.

UC Davis hosts San Jose State as part of the university's Picnic Day slate on April 21. The team will also honor its nine graduating seniors on that day.
