BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- Brittany Russell matched her career high
of four goals to lead UC Davis to an 11-8 win over host Cal St. Bakersfield
in the third-place game of the women's Western Water Polo Association tournament
Sunday.
The Aggies finish their season with a 20-11 overall record, posting their
fifth straight 20-win season. The Roadrunners closes the year at 17-22.
Beth Jay added two goals in her final game in a UC Davis cap, finishing
her four-year career with 72 goals. Melissa Agee also scored two goals,
while Missy Duncan, Shannon McGee and Nicole Lorrimer each added one. Goalkeeper
Kesley Whalen posted seven saves in net for the Aggies.
UC Davis trailed 3-2 after the first quarter but exploded for four goals
in the second period while shutting out the 'Runners. The Aggies tacked
on three more scores in the third quarter to build a 9-4 lead.
Allison Malczynski and Jennifer Nelson led CSUB with three goals apiece.
Russell and Alli Johnstone each finished the conference tournament with
eight goals in three games.
