IRVINE, Calif. - Senior attacker Carmen Eggert scored five goals while senior goalkeeper Riane Woods tallied 12 saves, leading seventh-seeded UC Davis to a 10-4 win over eighth-seeded Pacific in the Big West Conference tournament seventh-place game at Anteater Aquatics Complex Sunday.
The Aggies, ranked 18th nationally, end their 2013 season with a 15-17 overall record. The 20th-ranked Tigers finish up at 16-16.
Besides Eggert's output, senior Kathryn Bailey added two goals while Erin Schlueter, Keelia Houston and Courtney Weddle each scored one. Woods played three quarters in front of the UC Davis cage before yielding to sophomore Jillian Wilding in the fourth.
The Aggies led wire-to-wire, as Eggert scored two goals in each of the first two quarters in crafting a 5-2 lead through the first 13 minutes of play. Weddle and Bailey each finished counterattacks in the final minute of the second quarter to vault UC Davis to a 7-2 halftime lead.
Houston added a natural goal minutes into the second half, Bailey converted a 6-on-5 chance soon after, then Eggert ended the third with her fifth goal to extend the Aggies' scoring run to seven unanswered.
Pacific broke up its scoreless stretch when Elise Martin scored on a lob on the first possession in the fourth. However, the Tigers failed to score on four power plays in the final frame. Noelle Mann added a Tiger goal with 1:13 left to bring the score to its final of 10-4.
Sunday's game ends the career of six UC Davis seniors: Eggert, Woods, Bailey, Jessica Dunn, Hannah Breen and Danelle Kenny. Dunn and Eggert each have won two All-America honorable mentions in their careers. They also end their careers as UC Davis' No. 2 and No. 3 scorers in history with 208 and 189 goals, respectively. Woods, a 2012 all-conference pick, finishes her career as the program's No. 2 saves leader at 530.
