DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis senior Paige Virgil earned her team’s first Big West Conference Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week award of the 2018 season for the week of February 12-18, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Virgil, a Human Development major, helped UC Davis go 3-1 at the Triton Invitational, where three of the wins were against ranked teams. Overall, the Aggies finished in fifth-place finish out of the 16 schools that made an appearance at this previous weekend’s tournament.
The Murrieta, California, native aimed high from the start as she opened her tourney run by scoring four goals in the 11-10 Aggie victory over No. 19 Loyola Marymount. Over the span of the next three games, she scored a goal in both the No. 6 Arizona State and No. 15 UC San Diego games before rounding out her tournament play with three more goals in the 13-8 UC Davis victory over No. 18 San Diego State.
Aside from goals scored, Virgil also tallied up three assists and eight drawn exclusions over the span of the four games played.
No. 10 UC Davis returns to action at Schaal Aquatics Center this weekend as the Aggies host their annual Aggie ShootOut tournament, a six-team, 10-game event starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
