After taking a weekend off from competition, the 15th-ranked UC Davis women's water polo team returns to action at the Seawolf Splash tournament at Sonoma State this Saturday and Sunday. The Aggies are slated for four games, including Sunday's battle against six-time national champion UCLA.

UC Davis holds a 3-5 record for the year, having faced seven nationally ranked opponents thus far. (The eighth, Pacific, received votes in the February 10 poll.) Most recently, the Aggies placed seventh of 16 teams at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational, posting wins over No. 20 Maryland and No. 18 Cal State Bakersfield.

Although the program veterans have contributed in the young season - senior Casey Hines set a school record with 20 saves against Maryland, for instance - the year has marked the emergence of two key freshmen. Center Carly Ternaksy leads UC Davis with 11 goals, including four each vs. Pacific and Maryland. Attacker Jessica Dunn has been the Aggies' workhorse thus far, logging 189 minutes in the eight contests. She has also provided seven goals, four assists, seven steals and eight drawn exclusions.

Also among the UC Davis statistical leaders are senior Dana Nelsen (9 goals, 6 steals), sophomore Kaylee Miller (8 goals, 4 assists) and sophomore Ariel Feeney (6 goals, 6 steals). Not to be overlooked is sophomore attacker Christina Miyabe who, despite her 5-foot-3 stature, paces the team with 13 drawn kickouts and four field blocks.

UC Davis opens tournament action against SCIAC member Cal Lutheran at 12:45 on Saturday afternoon, then faces host Sonoma State later in the day. The Aggies pick up with No. UCLA on Sunday morning, then finish the weekend against Cal State East Bay that afternoon.
