DAVIS, Calif. — Senior men’s tennis player Tommy Lam and senior women’s water polo player Greta Kohlmoos were selected as UC Davis’ representatives for the Big West Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards. Along with the two Aggies, the Big West Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year honorees from the other nine conference universities will be recognized at a banquet scheduled to take place at the Wyndham hotel in Garden Grove, Calif. on Thursday, Mar. 8.
A managerial economics major and a consistent player in the lineup at No. 1 doubles and No. 5 singles, Lam earned All-Big West Conference Second Team Doubles honors during the 2017 season, in addition to earning an ITA Scholar Athlete and All-Academic Conference team honors in the previous season. Among other athletic accomplishments, Lam remained unbeaten at the No. 5 spot in the singles lineup for the entire 2016 season, and was at one point ranked as high as 17th in Hong Kong during his time as a member on the country’s Junior Davis Cup team.
Not only does Lam excel on the courts, but he also displays the same level of excellence in the classroom setting, maintaining a nearly nearly perfect GPA despite English being his second language. The scholar athlete has finished five quarters with 4.0 marks, and has qualified for the College of Letters and Science Dean’s Honor List five times.
Post college, the political science minor aspires to become an actuary and achieve the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation, and also wishes to open his own restaurant.
Kohlmoos, a center position player from Livermore, California, currently leads the Aggies in the 2018 season with 143 career goals, which ranks seventh in the UC Davis all time record book, while her 66 goals earned in the previous season was good for the second-best ranking in the Big West Conference. Kohlmoos has twice earned First Team All-Big West Conference honors, and in the 2017 season, she received a Honorable Mention Division I All-American recognition.
Outside of the pool, the cinema and digital media major has also collected her share of academic achievements, such as a spot on both the Dean’s Honor List and the ACWPC All-Academic team three times apiece.
After graduating from UC Davis in the spring, Kohlmoos wishes to pursue a career as a director for feature films.
