Dotterer earns Big West weekly honor

March 15, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior goalkeeper Avery Dotterer captured Big West Conference Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors for the period ending March 12, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday. This is the fourth such honor won by an Aggie in 2017, and the first by Dotterer.

A political science major and a two-time All-American at American River College, Dotterer saw limited action in her first year after transferring to UC Davis but has started 16 games this season. She made the most of her two appearances in wins over then-No. 10 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday and No. 20 Harvard on Sunday, totaling 27 saves with just 10 goals allowed in 59 minutes, while adding two steals and two assists.

Dotterer posted 12 stops in the Big West Conference-opening 9-6 win over the Gauchos, including four on power plays. A day later, she notched a career-best 15 saves in just 27 minutes against the Crimson before turning over the cage to freshman Caitlin Golding. Her four straight blocks kept Harvard in check in the first quarter, then a long assist to sophomore Annie Kutt to end the frame helped ignite UC Davis offensively.

The two wins also moved the Aggies up four places to No. 10 in Wednesday’s national Top 25 coaches’ poll. UC Davis returns to action in a Saturday home game against No. 21 CSUN.
