DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior goalkeeper Rachel Tatusko was chosen as the Big West Conference Player of the Week for women's water polo, assistant commissioner Mike Villamor announced on Wednesday. This is the fourth such honor won by an Aggie player this season, and the second by a goalkeeper.
Tatusko, a graduate of San Clemente High School, posted 12 saves and two steals in the 11th-ranked Aggies' 10-9 upset of No. 8 San Jose State on Saturday. She also stopped three 6-on-5 attempts during the second half. This was the second straight start for Tatusko, who tallied 10 saves against just three goals in UC Davis' 10-4 win over Cal State Northridge the week before.
Two Aggies previously won three Big West Player of the Week nods in 2012. Junior attacker Carmen Eggert captured the honor on March 7 and again on April 18. Junior Riane Woods, the usual UC Davis starter, claimed the award on March 21.
UC Davis hosts the Big West Conference Championship on Friday through Sunday. The second-seeded Aggies earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the UC Santa Barbara/Pacific quarterfinal on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
