DAVIS, Calif. - A total of 12 UC Davis student-athletes - six men and six women - were selected for 2008-09 All-Academic awards by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, it was announced by executive director Bryan Kimbell. Furthermore, the Aggie women's team was honored collectively for its overall grade-point average.

The ACWPC honors student-athletes in three groups. The "Outstanding" category is reserved for those with GPAs of 3.71 to 4.00. The "Superior" award is bestowed upon those in the 3.41 to 3.70 range, while "Excellent" goes to students achieving from 3.20 to 3.40. Additionally, all honorees must have competed in at least 50 percent of the games during the current season.

Freshmen Christina Miyabe and Alicia Began, and senior Lindsay Kiyama each earned merit in the Outstanding category, with Miyabe leading all Aggie water polo players with a 3.89 GPA in her major of biochemistry and molecular biology.

Junior Ashley Chandler, senior Grant Muenter, sophomore Carlos Martinez and redshirt freshman Ryan Hagens each won awards in the Superior category, while sophomore Dakotah Mohr, junior Dana Nelsen, junior Brendan Sigourney and seniors Alex Dewar and Adam Lindsay appeared under the Excellent heading.

The Aggie women's team finished the season with a 23-10 record and a No. 12 national ranking. The UC Davis men went 13-15 overall, holding the No. 11 spot in the final coaches' poll.
